Comment on Guest Blogger: Raped At Tufts University by Perry

I want to thank you. I saw just yesterday that tufts recently changed their policy on how they handle rape and sexual assault cases. I believe that this change was driven in part or whole by your efforts in speaking out about how the university Mismanaged this case. For far too long, schools around the country have been not only allowed, but encouraged a culture of rape on their campuses by refusing to take every rape case seriously, and even punishing victims for coming forward.

One thing rapist and abuser often do is try to make the victim feel like there's nowhere they can go for help, no one that will believe them or do anything. The last thing we need in this world are officials that make this true. In particular, in a world where 1 in 4 women will be raped during their college career, and most of the rapist will be repeat offender, Colleges and Universities have a special responsibility to make sure they are not contributing to the cause

P.S.
While the new tufts policy is a significant improvement over the old one, it still includes one glaring, and even criminal flaw. It requires that the evidence use in the process be destroyed after the hearing, provided their is no active litigation on-going at the time. Since Tufts requires report to be made within a year, and the statute of limitations in MA is 15 years for rape, this pretty much guarantees the University will be destroying evidence of a felony committed by one of their students. They still have a long way to come

Great insight. Sexual subjection of women is somewhat a historical relic that still swims under the society's consciousness--we don't realize it much, but the way we talk about sex is sexist.
